As I Watch You Work

Your muscles tense and flex,
While sweat streams down your cheeks
To pool in the hollows of your dimples.
You are so focused on the task at hand.
And the mastery of your craft is clearly displayed.
I find myself staring…totally hypnotized…
In sheer admiration
As I watch you work.
 
Whistling your favorite tune,
You bob your head to a beat
That is detected and enjoyed by you alone.
You pause for a moment…wrinkling your forehead,
As you concentrate on the placement of your hands
And apply the right pressure as you hold them steady.
Wow! Your diligence inspires me
As I watch you work.

Your assignment responds to you
Totally yielding to the power you exert.
It allows your smoothly callused hands
To manipulate and produce the desired results
You, the simple man machine,
Have conquered and tamed this giant.
I sit, just a little bit envious of the treatment it receives
As I watch you work.
 
Then you lick your lips, smiling…
Not just because your task is nearly complete.
Yes, you realize that your audience
Is totally focused on your every movement…
That perseverance is appreciated…
That your expertise is acknowledged…
That I am now your most loyal fan
 As I watch you work!
